SWEETEST PLACE ON EARTH (Philadelphia Trip - Part 5)
We left West Chester - not quite realizing that it was still going to take us 5 hours to get home. I don't know what we were thinking. We saw the signs for Hershey and got off - not sure if it was the right exit or not! We turned off GPS lady and followed the signs along all the country roads and all was well.
One of my earliest childhood memories is seeing these street lights. I STILL think they are so cute.
We arrived at Chocolate World.
Did the little ride.
Had a little snack.
and we got back in the car at 8:30 PM. Just about the time we told everyone we'd be HOME! ;-)
I don't like driving in the DARK and I don't think that will be happening again any time soon. There was a scary agressive driving, lights flashing, lane changing truck driver who we were a little afraid of plus red SUV guy who was a little tired and/or drunk. Some people should just stay off the road! We actually pulled into a rest stop to get away from the drunk guy and wouldn't you know it - when we got back on he was right there again... uggh.
We saw a couple light shows. First, a few GIANT flashes of light up the road from where we were driving - we like to think it was an alien abduction on some farm somewhere. Then we saw the weirdest thing ever.
We started seeing the flickering... I was telling Chrissy that Sally Jean is considering moving from Oregon to the East Coast. She said that she likes that we have fireflies here. Chrissy and I were talking about how we used to rip the poor light out of the lightening bugs and wear it as a ring (what did we do with the rest of them - just throw them to the ground?) and I remember putting them in a jar with a little bed of grass and a dandelion flower and poking holes in the top of the lid...
Then one hit the windshield and we SCREAMED and had a glowing light right in front of our faces. I have never seen as many fireflies as we did Friday night. We wondered if there was any symbolism in seeing them. It was both disturbing - especially when we were ducking hoping we weren't going to hit any more and kind of magical with the trees sparkling and them all over the road - flying all around us. I apologize to all the lightening bugs I ever made rings out of. Thank you for the Light. ;-)
So, with that illuminating story and our super late arrival time to Lake Ridge Drive, our journey was over. And the next one begins...
All of life is a journey - which paths we take, what we look back on and what we look forward to is up to us. We determine our destination, what kind of road we will take to get there, and how happy we are when we get there. ~ Anonymous
